WHERE IT ALL BEGAN:

THE MARINA CARTER STORY

Born on the beautiful island of Barbados, as a little girl, I remember watching my mother sew and crochet. She really enjoyed it and it seemed to be very relaxing for her.  I was always so intrigued by her skills that I would watch her every time she would sew or crochet, in hopes of becoming as good as she was. Eventually, I was able to master the skills for both and would make little things from time to time.

When I was 11 years old, we relocated to the United States.  My mom had continued her craft and I also continued following along and learning what I could from her. One thing that I had gotten really good at was sewing and I was so proud of myself when I would make outfits for the summertime! I had also began making baby blankets and received so many compliments from my mom and her friends.  I was ecstatic that I could do such a great job on something I had took quite some time to learn. As with most of our childhood hobbies, I eventually stopped with both and left them alone for quite a while.

A few years passed and I eventually restarted to crochet after I had my first 2 children.  Their blankets were made by me and I also crocheted blankets for my nephew and other family members.  As the kids grew and my family got bigger, so did my responsibilities and my craft was once more laid to rest.

As the year 2020 began to unfold, I was working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I felt the need to do something to keep my mind occupied during this stressful time, and I had some yarn in the house and began to work on small things just to relax myself.  My heart yearned to continue with my gift and to work on perfecting it.  I continued and made some hats for men, women and children. My kids who are now grown, encouraged me to keep going and to make a business out of it, but I wasn't sure if that was something I wanted to do.  I prayed on it and it seemed that the more I kept doing it, the more I was inspired to make more and more.  I looked into what it took to make a business out of a love that I have for crocheting.  I was blessed to be connected to someone who held me accountable with health and wellness. They then ended up assisting me with getting my business off the ground.  I also was blessed to have others who have the gift of design, photography and videography all within my circle and who all played a part in getting things done for me.

Germay's Crafty Corner is dedicated to my mom, not only to keep her memory alive, but to honor and appreciate her for all that she has taught me growing up. I would like to thank all of my friends and family for all the love and encouragement you give to me.  I love you all tremendously from the bottom of my heart.

One last thing I want to share with you is that if there is something that you are good at and want to pursue it, “go for it!”  The only way to reach your goal is to keep going and do not allow anyone to discourage or stop you.

Be blessed!
